Marvel’s Agent Carter may have been a show that the biggest fans of the Marvel Cinematic Universe were excited to keep watching, but when it came to raking in the viewers, the series didn’t do so well for the network it aired on, ABC.

Hayley Atwell would go on to reprise her role as Peggy Carter in the series following her time on the scenes set in the 1940s on Captain America: The First Avenger, and the star is clearly passionate about the role as she has more recently spoken out about her hopes to continue the series in some form despite its cancellation.

Speaking about the decision to cancel the show in a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Head of Marvel TV, Jeph Loeb explained: “Unlike the movie studio where they can say, ‘In 2019 we’re making Captain Marvel,’ the television division doesn’t have that ability. We are, at the end of the day, beholden to the network that we’re on. So for all of you Agent Carter fans out there, we didn’t cancel the show.”

The cancellation of Agent Carter wasn’t where ABC stopped when it came to taking out some of their Marvel-focused projects, as they also chose not to commission a full series of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. spin-off Most Wanted, and updates on a planned series called Damage Control seem to have disappeared entirely.

It doesn’t look as if they will be finding a home with Netflix either, as the streaming service looks to be sticking to its own original Marvel properties through Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, The Punisher and The Defenders.

Despite all that, there is still plenty of small screen Marvel comic book adaptation coming our way, with the arrival of Legion on FX a little later this year, Freeform’s Cloak & Dagger and upcoming Hulu series The Runaways.

Whilst nobody has expressed an interest in bringing Marvel’s Agent Carter back to life just yet, there is always the chance that this could change in the blink of an eye in the not-so-distant future.
