Traced back to the Kobra Cult, Lady Eve is a villain unlike many others, and is set to serve as the bridge between Tobias Whale (Marvin ‘Krondon’ Jones III) and a secret group of corrupt leaders in the series. Always a professional, Lady Eve presents herself as the owner of a funeral parlour, but quickly becomes a threat to the show’s titular hero.

Speaking about the casting, showrunner and executive producer Salim Akil said: ”Jill is an amazing artist who can embody any character and given them an authentic voice that is both nuanced and richly complex. I am excited to see her in the role of Lady Eve.”

Cress Williams leads Black Lightning as Jefferson Pierce; a man who’s done well to keep the secret of his past secret identity, after being gifted the power of harnessing and control electricity. Almost a decade before the modern day, he used those powers in the mantle of Black Lightning to rid the streets of criminals, but now with those days behind him, he’s doing his best to lead as normal a life as possible. As the father of two daughters and the current principal of a charter high school which doubles up as a safe haven for youngsters, he seems to have done well in doing just that, but when crime and corruption begins to spread once more, he realises he must turn back to his old crime-fighting ways.

Menacing local gang The One Hundred are the catalyst to pushing Jefferson back into his Black Lightning costume and, when his loved ones find themselves in the crosshairs of that very gang, he must work hard not only to save his family, but the community he holds so dear.

Based on characters from DC Comics, the show comes from Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Greg Berlanti, Salim Akil, Mara Brock Akil and Sarah Schechter serve as executive producers on the show.

Black Lightning is set to debut in midseason 2018.
