The actor confessed he and Robin Wright have so much fun making the Netflix original series that they're constantly filming new takes and have hours worth of footage of them messing around and messing up their scenes on set.

Speaking at London's Empire Leicester Square last night at the world premiere of the third season of the show, Spacey said: "Yeah, we have a great time. We haven't done a blooper reel but I think we should at some point because there's a lot of them. There's probably thirteen hours of blooper reel."

He went on to speak about playing US President Frank Spencer in the political drama, admitting he enjoys not knowing just what his character will do next.

Asked if he enjoys playing a man without morals, he said: "I disagree. He doesn't have your morals or your rules but he's got his own and the great thing is that there's a lot I don't know about him.

"That's sort of the fun, is showing up every day and seeing where the story's going, where the script's going and what gets revealed about him. It's more interesting what I don't know than what I do know."

Spacey also went on to reveal that his on-stage experience prepared him for the way in which Frank speaks directly to the camera, in the same way actor Matthew Broderick did in 1987 movie Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

"Well, I have the experience in the theatre of having done 'Richard III' and actually many people may not know what that refers to is that Shakespeare created direct address.

"I know some people think Ferris Bueller created direct express but he did not ... So that's when you turn to the audience and share what the character's going to do, sort of making them your co-conspirators."

'House of Cards' season three is available to watch on Netflix now.
