Kris Marshall

Kris Marshall was told to keep out of the sun by former 'Death in Paradise' star Ben Miller.

The 40-year-old actor - who most famously played the role of Nick in 'My Family' - has replaced Ben in the BBC One crime-comedy and says his predecessor offered him valuable advice to help him succeed on the show, which is set on the fictional island of Saint-Marie and filmed on the Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe.

Kris told BANG Showbiz: "He said to me, 'Always do your shots first in the morning, shoot everything on you in the morning and in the afternoon when it gets really hot, turn the cameras round and watch everyone else sweat'."

"And that was the best piece of advice because that's exactly what I did. Did all my stuff in the morning and then in the afternoon I'm in shorts, flip flops and everyone else ... they're just sitting there sweltering."

Despite Kris' 20-year experience in the acting business, Ben also advised him to make sure he had learnt his script really well because the Caribbean heat can make you forget your lines.

Kris explained: "He said the first thing, which I kind of already knew...was, 'Make sure you know your lines absolutely backwards because it's all you speaking so if you don't know your lines well enough then the heat and the rims start to get to you'."
