Though Xena: Warrior Princess came to an end almost a decade and a half ago in 2001, the show still holds an incredible cult following, many of whom are hoping that one day the series can return in some form.

But what everyone seems to hold close is that there will only ever be one Xena - played by Lucy Lawless for the entire six year run, alongside her sidekick Gabrielle (Renee O'Connor).

Despite being busy on her work with Ash vs. Evil Dead, Lawless is just as eager as many of her fans to see Xena return, according to comments she made to Den of Geek.

She said: "I've been pitching that, actually... The fans really do want that, and I've met some people who've crowdfunded some things, and I'm just like, 'Why don't we just do that?'"

Lawless' current work on Ash Vs Evil Dead will see Bruce Campbell and Sam Raini reunited, in the show premiering on Starz in October of this year.

In the past crowdfunding efforts have worked well for shows including Veronica Mars, but whether or not it would work for Xena is another matter altogether - for a start there would be the issue of who holds the brand rights to the series.

Then there's the matter of (spoiler alert) Xena dying in the series finale, but Lawless says that this is merely a "technicality" and they could simply "screw her head back on".
