Alfre Woodard has since joined the cast, in a role that could be the season's major villain, and a new report may now have revealed a lot more surrounding Luke Cage than we could ever have hoped for.

According to Heroic Hollywood, the series is to feature a character named Willis Stryker, AKA primary antagonist Diamondback. Reportedly the villain was heavily featured in a Luke Cage film script that was in development in the mid-2000s, but which never saw the light of day.

Both friends in their childhood, Cage and Diamondback both fell in love with Reva Connors who's said to be the love interest in the upcoming Netflix series. The report synopsis for the show reads:

"Luke Cage is a former gang member who is framed for a crime. In prison, he volunteers for a medical experiment that goes awry, giving him super strength and bulletproof skin. Using his newfound powers, Cage escapes and becomes a hero for hire. His archenemy is Willy Stryker, a former childhood friend from Harlem. The two committed petty crimes together, and both fell for the same woman, Reva Connors, which led to their eventual falling out. It was Stryker who framed Cage for a drug deal that sent him to prison."

Though it looks to be pretty spot on, the details have not been confirmed as official and so fans shouldn't take them as such. Having Diamondback as the primary villain does go well with previous reports that Cottenmouth will be appearing however, and the close friend betrayal adds a personalised story and sense of drama to the show, instantly giving weight to Cage's backstory and making him more accessible to viewers who watch casually, unfamiliar with his comic book glory.

Luke Cage season one is preceded by Daredevil season one - available now on Netflix - and Jessica Jones season one which releases later this year. Luke Cage will come in 2016 along with Daredevil's second season.
