M. Night Shyamalan may be more known in the world of movies, but he’s also heavily invested in television. Working on bringing Wayward Pines to TV on FOX and also with plans to bring former HBO series Tales From the Crypt to TNT, he’s a man with a lot of ideas, and now he wants to get his hands on a series that’s already established itself as a huge success.

According to a report from Digital Spy, Shyamalan is hoping to get in the director’s chair for at least one episode of the upcoming second season of Stranger Things. The Netflix original series found a massive audience last year upon its debut, and with the creative team behind it – Matt and Ross Duffer – no strangers to working with Shyamalan, the pairing could quite easily come about.

Shyamalan commented: “My boys who do Stranger Things, they did Wayward Pines for me. They were round my house and I was like, ‘Well, you can hire me back guys!’”

Not much has been revealed about the second season of Stranger Things, but producer and director Shawn Levy has opened up a little about what to expect.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, he explained: “Season 2 is bigger and potentially darker in its stakes. The threat, which in Season 1 was to Will Byers, has grown. That’s all I’m going to say! But, I will say Season 2 has a bigger cast and is definitely loyal to the kind of magical storytelling that we established in the first season. It’s character-based and still about our core group of characters.”

Actor Finn Wolfhard who plays Mike Wheeler on the show added: “Now that we’ve done a season, we know exactly about our characters. We are very conscious of them and can take them to the next level. I think we’ve grown up a little bit, and our characters have too. They have been through a lot and have used those experiences to help them grow and be stronger in Season 2.”

Stranger Things season 2 will premiere on Netflix in all territories the streaming service is available later this year.
