Broadchurch has added Meera Syal to its cast list, weeks after filming began for the second series of the drama in Somerset and Dorset.

Known for her work on Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars, Meera joins a cast including Olivia Colman and David Tennant in a "pivotal" role, according to RadioTimes.com.

Other than that tidbit, not many details surrounding her character have been revealed.

Series one of Broadchurch saw Clevedon, Somerset rocked when one of its own - an 11 year old boy - was murdered.

The second series opens during the aftermath of the events that shook the town, and is said to be "vastly different" to other murder mystery series.

Andrew Buchan who made the comment and plays Mark Latimer said to The Independent: "But by that, I just mean plot-wise, it'll be vastly different. I can't give anything away about the plot."

Arthur Darvill is back as local vicar Paul Coates and Jodie Whittaker slips back into the role of Andrew's wife Beth.

Eve Myles, Charlotte Rampling, James D'Arcy and Marianne Jean-Baptiste are all also in the cast for this new series.
