The Kiss 100 radio presenter - whose cha-cha-cha with partner Janette Manrara impressed the judges last weekend - has forged an unlikely friendship with the 'Poker Face' hitmaker after interviewing her several times over the years.

And while Melvin has been taking some of her advice on board when it comes to shutting out distractions during rehearsals, some of Gaga's tips have left him baffled.

Speaking on BBC Two spin-off show 'It Takes Two', he said: "[Gaga] said, 'Turn your phone off' - which is fair enough. Then she said 'Shut your mind off from everything going on' - which again is fair enough. But then she said I should act like a ninja...

"I have no idea what that means!"

The 36-year-old star hopes the "ninja" tip doesn't mean attacking his partner.

He joked to Janette: "I don't want to come in and give you a karate chop!"

The former 'Xtra Factor' host recently revealed he has imposed a sex ban on himself in order to conserve his energy for the show.

He said: "I used to have a rule that before any big show I don't have sex.

"It is like football; you want to have the energy. So come this weekend, sorry ladies, Melvin will not be around for any lovemaking.

"I did the same when I was doing 'The Xtra ' and when I was doing 'Bang on the Money'. There was no sex for me."

Melvin previously revealed he hoped to find love on the show but that is now looking unlikely.

He said: "Every single dancer on the show is taken this year. I've met a lot of their partners as well.

"It's not like 'Strictly' is the only place to date someone. The only celebrity on the show who is single is Laura Whitmore.

"She's my really good friend though. We've worked a lot together."
