Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany lead new Netflix original series Mindhunter in the roles of FBI agents Holden Ford and Bill Tench, with the streaming service this week dropping a brilliant new trailer for the upcoming show, taking place in the late 1970s. Launching this Friday, you can get a glimpse of what to expect from the teaser below:

Both studying the damaged psyches of serial killers and rapists, agents Ford and Tench will team up, hoping to understand exactly why these villains take the lives of others and doing their best to catch them before they claim more victims.

Directed by David Fincher, Asif Kapadia, Tobias Lindholm and Andrew Douglas, the series also stars Fringe actress Anna Torv and Unless actress, Hannah Gross. Joe Penhall created the series, with Charlize Theron and Cean Chaffin joining Fincher and Joshua Donen as executive producers.

There’s a lot of anticipation surrounding the show’s launch following the success of the book on which it is based; Mind Hunter: Inside The FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit, by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas. An embargo in place for early reviews however hasn’t yet been lifted, so only time will tell to see if this series will be yet another original success for Netflix, or instead, one that’s thrown onto the axed pile before really being given a chance to soar.

Fortunately, a talented cast should bring in droves of viewers and, with a second season already commissioned by Netflix, it’s obvious that the streamer is confident in its future success. Let’s hope that renewal wasn’t premature!

Mindhunter comes to Netflix on Friday, October 13.
