The 39-year-old actor was a contestant on 'Celebrity Love Island' in 2005 and was such a hit with viewers, he returned for a second stint the following year, and has revealed he'd like to continue his links to the show, but he lost out on the chance to provide the voiceover.

Asked if he'd like to reenter the famous villa on the show - which is fronted by Caroline Flack - he said: "No but I'd like to co-host. I went up for the voiceover job but they went with Iain Stirling. He's done amazing."

However, Paul admitted he thinks the show was better when it featured famous faces and he's not entirely sure what the 'Love Island' stars can go on to do afterwards.

He said: "Unless they're singers, dancers, actors or musicians, then what's the talent? It's a sore subject for me because I think people should have a craft.

"At least what's his name, begins with a K [Kem Cetinay], he's a great character, lots of personality. I've met them all, I like Chris [Hughes], he's a nice guy but there are only so many reality relationship shows he can do."

Paul shot to fame playing Sol Patrick in 'Hollyoaks' and though the show has recently brought back a number of old faces, including James Redmond as Rory 'Finn' Finnegan, Sarah Jayne Dunn as Mandy Richardson, and Gary Lucy as Luke Morgan, he's not sure it would be so easy for him to make a comeback.

He told Star magazine: "If there was a storyline [I'd go back].

"Obviously they've had James, Gary and Sarah Jayne back, but Sol killed someone and ran off to Spain, so would he have to go to prison?

"It's possible, but I don't know how they'd do it."
