Doctor Who is gearing up to come to a dramatic conclusion, with talk already turning towards where the series may go moving forward.

Speaking on Graham Norton’s BBC Radio 2, actress Pearl Mackie who plays Doctor Who companion Bill in the current series of the sci-fi show hinted that she may have a future on the show, despite actor Peter Capaldi leaving the titular role and Steven Moffat stepping down as showrunner, to be replaced by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall.

“[Chris] said some nice things, he was very pleased about the series and how Bill’s been received,” she said, before adding that she ‘didn’t know’ whether or not she’d be remaining with the series. “I think, hopefully, we will make the decision.”

Companions have remained with the Doctor in the past despite the character going through his iconic regenerations, so there’s every chance Bill’s story is one we could continue following for the foreseeable future.

Exactly when we find out who’s staying, going and joining the cast of Doctor Who for series 11 remains to be seen, but we’ll keep you up-to-date with all the latest and biggest news as it comes in.

Doctor Who continues tonight (June 24) on BBC One at 6.45pm.
