With only nine episodes left in Pretty Little Liars’ final season, the series will be coming to an end and the elusive ‘A.D’ will be unmasked. Exactly who’s behind the torturing of the girls in the show is still up in the air, but fans have a multitude of theories as to who would want to harass them so many years after Cece Drake was exposed as the original ‘A’.

Now, creator I Marlene King is promising that whoever’s behind the hood is somebody she’s had in mind since the very beginning.

Speaking to Cosmopolitan, she said: “We knew the original A would be Mona. I really believed the original A had to be Mona – but we had to do that in a way that still surprises the fans of the books.

“I knew who our show’s A would be at the end – who we haven’t revealed yet – but I didn’t know we’d have Little A in between that.”

She’d previously said that the reveal of A.D. would be “sad”, adding “the best villains are relatable people”. Will viewers be empathising with A.D. when all is said and done? We’re not entirely convinced…

Pretty Little Liars continues on Freeform in the US and Netflix in the UK.
