With Ned’s special gift still unclear to Chuck, she seeks more answers to Ned’s ‘special touch’. Ned avoids answering her questions like “Why it is only one minute?” and “What happens after one minute?” as he fears that she will discover that he inadvertently killed his father when they were children as a result of him bringing his mother back from the dead. Private Investigator Emerson Cod receives another strange death case at the Schatz Funeral Home where Ned brought Chuck back to life. This time the are to investigate the death of the Funeral Director, who died as a result of Chuck staying alive for longer than one minute.Chuck continues to question Ned about why this murder is different from the others and Ned, not wanting to keep anything from Chuck, tells her about the consequences of keeping someone alive for more than one minute. Chuck realises that she is only alive because the funeral director died.However, the dead person in question is Laurence Schatz, who had become the town’s most hated person after he was found to be stealing from dead bodies at his funeral home. With Laurence’s life being threatened by distraught relatives prior to his murder, his brother Lewis Schatz hires Emerson Cod to solve the case. Ned finally agrees to wake Laurence after Chuck sweet talks him into letting her thank the man for her ‘new found’ life, and Emerson Cod wants to find the missing family heirlooms in order to return them to their rightful owners. When Laurence is woken, more secrets are revealed as he explains that the stealing from the dead was a family business and that Lewis is actually part of the scandal. Emerson starts to look for Lewis, only for Ned to find him first, dead in the Pie Hole freezer. With another murder, the attention is drawn to Ned as someone is trying to frame him. With the police arriving, Ned has to wake Lewis from his frozen state to get him out of the pie hole and find out who killed him.Lewis’s death was caused by choking on a piece of lamb’s tongue after being surprised by a customer turning up at the funeral home.
The mysterious customer was looking for a valuable family heirloom that was buried with his father only to appear on an online auction website.
Meanwhile, Olive’s jealousy towards Chuck is made obvious when she sees her become affectionate towards Ned – but still without them making any body contact. Olive lets her emotions out with Alfredo Aldarisio, a traveling sales-man who sells pharmaceutical alternative remedies.
Aunts Lily and Vivian’s synchronized swimming tour, Darling Mermaid Darlings, is cancelled after the two find a postcard from Chuck sent before her death. Depressed at the thought of life without Chuck, the two confine themselves to their home in mourning. Chuck is devastated at how her disappearance is affecting her aunts, and she decides to bring a little sunshine into their lives by lacing pies with herbal antidepressants.
Olive unwittingly becoming the messenger in Chuck's plan and upon delivering the pie Olive discovers that the Aunts believe Chuck to be dead. Convinced that Chuck must have faked her own death, she stays quiet to use this information later to her own advantage.
