Rob James-Collier has said kissing a man in 'Downton Abbey' is easy.

The 37-year-old actor - who plays gay under-butler Thomas Barrow - has been forced to lock lips with a number of his male co-stars since joining the ITV hit drama in 2010, but he admits he prefers snogging those of the same sex because it doesn't make his girlfriend jealous.

He said: "I found it easier [kissing a man]. The way I was thinking was that if you kiss a girl you worry about one - how big her boyfriend is, two - is he in the building watching and is he going to kick the s**t out of you, and three - what is my missus going to think of it.

"So we went to the BFI [British Film Institute] for a big unveiling on the cinema screen, and the missus knew it (the kiss) was coming, and we were all sitting watching it and I thought, 'nice one, she can't accuse me of anything,' and the missus turned to me and said, "You've never kissed me like that."

Rob has been with his girlfriend Lauren Chandiram - whom he shares three-year-old son Milo with - for nine years, but still has no plans to tie the knot despite constant comments from members of his family.

Speaking on 'The Jonathan Ross Show', he joked to Jonathan: "You're bringing the pressure on as well, our family is already on at me and now you're starting. I've put the car in her name. What more commitment do you want?"

'The Jonathan Ross Show' airs Saturday November 2 at 9:50PM on ITV.
