Samantha Womack is glad her 'EastEnders' alter-ego is "not so soft" when she returns to Albert Square.
The 40-year-old star's character Ronnie Mitchell makes her comeback with a new-found hard attitude after being released from jail, and the blonde beauty feels her alter-ego has "unfinished" business in Walford.
She said: "I felt like she was unfinished. I didn't want her to finish like a wet blanket, I wanted her to gain her strength. It was so good what we did, I want to make sure that she's still got life in her, there would be no point in coming back and not trying to recreate something new.
"I like the idea that there's things happening with Ronnie that she's not so soft anymore."
Ronnie was sentenced to three years in prison after she swapped her dead child with Kat Moon's (Jessie Wallace) newborn son, Tommy Moon, in a storyline which left viewers outraged.
Speaking on ITV's 'Daybreak', she added: "In some ways it's gone really quickly and in other ways, it's taken forever so coming back feels a bit weird ... It was a controversial storyline obviously people got upset about, so we had to make sure that we executed it towards the end well and I hope that we did."
