Sean Pertwee says his friend Peter Capaldi will bring "gravitas" to the role of 'Doctor Who'.

The 49-year-old actor is the son of Third Doctor John Pertwee and the show has been a part of his life since childhood.

Sean admits he is very excited about Peter - who he stars with in an upcoming new BBC drama based on the 'The Three Musketeers' novel by Alexandre Dumas - joining the series and is pleased that an older man has got the role as the titular Time Lord.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, Sean said: "My friend Peter Capaldi is going to be playing the Doctor and I can't wait to see him in it. He's a friend and a fine actor and it's great to see Doctor Who as a slightly older actor again this time. I was working with him, funnily enough, on 'The Musketeers' in Prague recently and I think he'll bring something special. He's such a fine actor and someone with real gravitas as well - and that's not taking anything away from Matt (Smith) and anyone previously in the role - but I think he'll be something really extraordinary, I really do."

Sean - who was reported to be in the running to play the Twelfth Doctor when Matt Smith announced he was quitting the show earlier this year - will definitely be watching the 50th anniversary special episode 'The Day of the Doctor' on November 23.

And the 'Dog Soldiers' star is particularly looking forward to seeing how the episode will feature his late dad John - who played the Doctor from 1970 to 1974.

Speaking at the launch of Disney Store's Share in the Magic charity campaign at the Oxford Street Disney Store in London on Wednesday night (06.11.13), Sean said: "I'm going to be watching it ['Doctor Who'] without a doubt. I've seen the generic commercial for it with the Doctors. I don't know how they're going to do it, I don't know what's happening, but it's going to be nice to see my father's face on TV again."

Sean was joined at the event by his son Freddie and wife Jackie and other stars such as Denise Van Outen, Mutya Buena and Keisha Buchanan from MKS and McFly's Tom Fletcher and special guests Mickey and Minnie.

The Share in The Magic charity campaign is a UK initiative that invites families to post their own Letter to Santa in Mickey's Magical Postbox or online at Disneystore.co.uk and for every letter posted Disney Store will donate a soft toy to a variety of local children's charities.
