The 52-year-old actor - who played Martin Platt in the ITV soap between 1985 and 2005 - is making a brief return to the show as his son David Platt (Jack P. Shepherd) deals with his sexual assault ordeal at the hands of Josh Tucker (Ryan Clayton) but Sean would love for his character to come back for an extended period of time.

Speaking on Lorraine on Thursday (22.03.18), he said: "I think I've made it clear that the character has enough links within the show...you know, past relationships, marriages, children, grandchildren, there's quite a bit to go at."

Meanwhile, Sean previously admitted it was exciting to be back on the Weatherfield cobbles.

He told BANG Showbiz: "I'd definitely be up for it [coming back]. Definitely up for it ... I think as time has gone by since October - which is when it was first brought to me - I had lots of thinking time and my character has so many connections. He has so many connections that if you were to put all the characters within the show around Martin in the middle, with a line diagram, how many connections would he have? Probably about 25 different connections with people and they're all good connections in my opinion. Eye-to-eye, good and friendly or he used to have relationships with people years ago so there's so much depth there. Editorially it would have to be thought about and whether they act upon it is completely up to the powers that be ... This is the first time I've been asked back. I didn't really know what I felt about it before the scripts arrived. I couldn't have asked for a better way to come back so I'm really pleased. I questioned myself before I walked into the building but I've been really pleased with the way it's all turned around."
