The Divergent movie series hasn’t seen the success of fellow dystopian novel adaptations for the big screen. Swallowed up in a world where The Hunger Games took over the genre and didn’t leave much room for other franchises to breath, Lionsgate found huge disappointment when the time came for each instalment in the Divergent series to hit the big screen.

Thanks to the critical and commercial bombing, the final movie in the franchise will go directly to television, with the cast’s future up in the air. Now leading star Shailene Woodley has confirmed that she won’t be a part of the final film, telling Vanity Fair in no uncertain terms: “I’m not going to be on the television show.”

With Woodley the face of Divergent up until this point, this news is certainly going to shake those fans loyal to the series to-date. Now those behind the films are going to have to find a new actor to step into the leading role of Tris, unless the TV movie is scrapped altogether.

There’s always the chance that the Divergent series could be rebooted completely, with a fresh lease of life breathed in and an entirely new cast stepping into proceedings.

No premiere date for the Divergent TV movie has yet been given.
