The 51-year-old actor - who is known for playing the role of Barry Evans in the longstanding soap 'EastEnders' for 10 years - has signed up to compete on the Channel 5 programme when it airs on August 1.

And it is believed Shaun's appearance in the infamous house will go down a treat with viewers because he is a recognisable character.

Speaking about this year's line-up to the Sun Online, a source said: "'Celebrity Big Brother' bosses are delighted to have Shaun as part of the line-up.

"He played an iconic character and everyone recognises him.

"Soaps fans will love him in the house and he's going to go down a storm with viewers."

However, Shaun will not be the only soap star in line to go head to head with fellow housemates to win the series as 'Coronation Street' actress Shobna Gulati is also in talks with the creative team to join the line-up.

It has also been leaked former Girls Aloud band member Sarah Harding, 35, as well as 'The Only Way Is Essex' heartthrob Pete Wicks, 'Geordie Shore' star Nathan Henry, 'Ex On The Beach' contestant Jemma Lucy, as well as disgraced TV presenter John Leslie and former 'X Factor' contestant Amelia Lily, have signed up for the show.

But the line-up may change because of the leak, which was a "nightmare" for the show's bosses to deal with.

Speaking previously about the mishap, a separate source said: "This is a nightmare for producers. They only want the housemates to know who they'll be living with once they walk into the house.

"Now they will have the chance to find out about each other online. It could ruin the dynamic producers were hoping for."
