The music mogul's friend Sinitta claims he is "on a mission" to change the ITV talent show and added he is the only judge on the programme who is guaranteed to return for the next series.

She said: "When I last saw Simon, there was a glint in his eye and I knew it was time for change.

"I can see there being more alterations to the point where it is unrecognisable.

"The only person guaranteed a place on the panel is Simon. He's on a mission and I don't think there's any stopping him."

Sinitta claims Cheryl Fernandez-Versini's stint as a judge on the show last year was forgettable and she had hoped for more fireworks between her and fellow panellist Mel B.

She told Heat magazine: "I think Cheryl's beautiful, but people just stared at her and didn't listen to what she was saying. I can remember her visually but I can't remember anything she really said.

"There was a lot of back-patting and doing each other's zips up [with Cheryl and Mel]. It was nice to be around but I was expecting more fireworks."

Meanwhile, former 'Xtra Factor' hosts Olly Murs and Caroline Flack have been announced as the new presenters of the show after Dermot O'Leary stepped down from the role last month.
