'Doctor Who' won the Outstanding Achievement and Best Drama prizes at the TV Choice Awards tonight (09.09.13).

The BBC One sci-fi show took home two prizes at the event at the Dorchester Hotel in London, and the show's lead writer Steven Moffat insisted competition was so fierce he would have felt "no shame" if they hadn't have won.

He told BANG Showbiz: "It's so great to win these awards. We were up against some very. very good shows. It would've be no shame had we got beat."

Meanwhile 'EastEnders' star Shane Richie picked up the award for Best Soap Actor and he admitted it was "great" to have Samantha Womack back on the soap after two years, following her character Ronnie Mitchell being released from prison in an episode aired tonight.

He said: "I've known Sam since the days we did 'Grease' [on the West End] together. It's great having her back."

While Shane and his co-star David Witts - Best Soap Newcomer - got individual recognition at the awards show, it was rival show 'Coronation Street' which took home the prize for Best Soap, with Michelle Keegan getting honoured as Best Soap Actress.
