The former firefighter beat off competition from Lucy O'Byrne to be crowned the champion of the BBC One show.

Speaking after his win, he said: "I'm so lost for words right now.

"I can't thank everyone enough for doing this for me. I never thought this was possible."

But the 29-year-old singer - who will release his debut single, a cover of Adam Levine's 'Lost Stars' in aid of BBC's Performing Arts Fund charity - isn't planning to celebrate for too long as he revealed he is getting down to "business" straight away.

He said: "After tonight, it gets down to business. Obviously the single is going to be out at midnight tonight.

"Everybody that's voted for me, go and buy that single. It's the start of my career."

Meanwhile, runner-up Lucy is hoping she can continue with a career in music following the show.

She said: "Hopefully this will lead to me being a singer now and not having to go back (to my old job) ...

"It's been incredible. You've changed my life."

Earlier in the show, Sasha Simone and Emmanuel Nwamadi were voted off by the public, leaving Lucy and Stevie to fight for the crown.
