In the third season of The Flash - debuting later this week in the US on The CW - viewers will see actor Keiynan Lonsdale don the striking yellow leather outfit that sees him transformed into Central City's Kid Flash.

For Lonsdale however, the change in his character came far quicker than he had imagined.

Speaking in a new interview featurette from the network, Lonsdale explains: "The end of last season, after the loss of his father, Barry decided to go back, change the timeline, save his mom, which changes everything. The major change, and the most obvious change for Wally, is that he's now The Flash.

"I wasn't expecting it at all. I wasn't expecting to transition into Kid Flash so soon. But because of Flashpoint, anything can happen really. So, it was just exciting. As soon as I read the script for 301, I was over the moon."

Despite the change in Wally's character, it's already been made clear that the Flashpoint effects will be just a small part of season three's story, with different plot points lined up for the episodes ahead.

We wouldn't be surprised however if trickle down effects from all of the messing around with various timelines meant that Kid Flash could return to the series for good in some form, some way or another.

The Flash season 3 premieres on Tuesday, October 4 at 8pm on The CW, and will broadcast on Sky1 in the UK soon after.
