The 44-year-old astronaut - who returned to Earth in June after his six-month mission on the International Space Station - is reportedly being lined up to join a future series of the Ballroom and Latin show and producers are willing to slap down an eye-watering amount of cash in a bid to nab him.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "He was obviously huge this year and would be a dream signing."

However, bosses of the BBC show may have to wait a little while to secure him as Tim is currently undergoing treatment to regain his muscle after he lost it in the zero gravity of the International Space Station earlier this year.

The insider explained: "Considering the man is on something like a two-year rehab to get walking properly, we might have to wait until next year to see him do the paso doble."

Tim is currently being taught how to walk again and has been warned that any sudden movements - like dancing - could break his already weakened bones.

Meanwhile, although he won't be ready for this year's series, it's believed bosses are pulling out all the stops to create the best celebrity and professional line-up in time for next month.

Former MP Ed Balls is the first contestant to be confirmed for the upcoming series of the BBC One show, while Laura Whitmore, Frank Bruno and Judge Rinder are thought to be on the hit list as they hope to lift the famous glitterball trophy.
