Lifetime's UnREAL will be returning for a third season, but with a new set of showrunners after originally being created by Sarah Gertrude Shapiro and Marti Noxon.

Following some hugely public drama between the two creators however, Noxon decided to take a step back from the series during its second season and allowed Carol Barbee to step in.

Now heading into season 3, Lifetime have decided to bring in a familiar face - Stacy Rukeyser - as a new showrunner following her work as an executive producer on the show since its first season.

Having spoken about UnREAL's second season with Deadline, Rukeyser said: "In Season 2 we took some very big swings, and I am proud of that. On the show, the pendulum swings between OMG moments and deeper character moments. Maybe the pendulum swung too far in the plot direction [in season 2]. So much happened in terms of story and reveals, we have to take time to explore what that means for the characters, the psychological impact and the truth about what happened to them."

UnREAL will return in the summer of 2017 for its third season on Lifetime in the US and Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
