Warwick Davis will reportedly host 'Celebrity Squares'.

This reboot of the classic game show - which has spent more than 15 years off-air - will see him in his first presenting role.

Warwick is thought to have beaten off competition from the likes of other better-known hosts including Christine Bleakley and Chris Moyles to the role, which was previously held by the late Bob Monkhouse.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Warwick is obviously a leftfield choice as he's not a tried and tested TV host. But he is an extremely likeable guy with great comic timing and that's all you need, really."

The game show features nine star guests who make up the squares on a huge game of noughts and crosses. They are asked a question by the host and a contestant must then say whether they have answered it correctly or not in an attempt to get three Xs or Os in a row on the board.

The 3 ft 6in actor's most recent stint in Ricky Gervais' comedy 'Life's Too Short' has earned him a growing fanbase in British television and producers are hoping he will be a hit with viewers.

The sourced added: "He has grown a strong audience with Life's Too Short and already has a big fanbase from the 'Star Wars' films. We're really excited about him doing the show."

'Celebrity Squares' was originally a hit show back in the 1970s but was briefly revamped by ITV between 1993 and 1996.

ITV bosses are reportedly keen to give the show a fresh look as they are convinced audiences are feeling nostalgic and looking for old shows to return to screens.

A pilot is scheduled to film later this month and if successful it could return as early as the new year.
