This year’s new season of Real Housewives of Atlanta is without a doubt one of the most explosive we’ve ever seen. Though we’re only a few episodes in, there has been plenty of drama to witness and, in the centre of it all is long-time cast member Porsha Williams.

We got the chance to put some questions to Porsha about what we’ve seen from her so far this season, as well as what we should expect from her in the coming weeks. Here’s what she had to say…

For those who haven’t yet started the new season of Real Housewives of Atlanta, what should they expect?

It’s enlightening, explosive and very revealing! There’s a lot of my own personal enlightenment and then the relationships with the girls is the revealing part.

From what we’ve seen so far, Kandi doesn’t seem open to forgiving just yet; is that something we’ll see change?

Not that I can see. We’ve decided to just be cordial with one another for the rest of the season.

We also see you get into some quick drama with NeNe; is that something that continues throughout the season?

Pretty much! It does take some time for people to figure things out when no one is really listening, so sometimes I feel like I’m saying something that she isn’t hearing and vice versa, so it’s going to take some time. I’m a very fun person and so is she, so even in the midst of the drama there are still some fun moments.

This season looks to be one all about family for you; what was it like bringing them more into the show than ever before?

It was a great for me. Last year I filmed a lot with my friend Phaedra (Parkes) but this year she wasn’t here, so you want to be around people you can have a good time with and [for me], that was my family. The best thing about filming with my family was that people can get to see the real Porsha. A lot of the times when I’m with the girls I can be really guarded, but when you’re with family, you are your most authentic self, so this season people really get to see me. There are also the ups and downs I have with my family and those moments are when you’ll get to see a whole different side of Porsha.

This is the sixth season you’ve been a part of – how much has your experience changed since you started the show until now?

In the first season the cameras really did bother me a lot. It took at least two years on the show to get used to them and not get nervous around them. After a while it’s almost like they disappear and you learn to build a thicker skin and not listen to all of the comments. I’ve learnt to be a lot more open on the show.

What are some of the biggest challenges when it comes to filming a reality show?

Definitely the cameras but it’s also about deciding whether or not you want to open up in front of them. For any new Housewife, I’d tell them to be open and to have that fun. If it’s your first season, you’re going to be nervous but just be yourself, and it all comes naturally. You need to also be true to yourself. If you say something, make sure to stand by it because not standing by it is probably the worst thing you can do on this show. People don’t stick to it and try and take it back, but you can’t forget, you’re on camera!

Finally, what should we expect from you in the coming weeks and months?

You can expect to see some more acting projects that I’m working on at the moment, as I’m trying to get into scripted television acting as well!
