Dancing With The Stars the final ten couples dance either the Argentine Tango or the paso doble

Mid season on Dancing With The Stars and it the Argentine Tango and the Paso Doble - the celebrities have a hard act to follow with last weeks stunning display from the professionals.

Natalie Coughlin and Alec Mazo, opened the proceedings with a paso doble, did they bring out the bullfighter. Natalie is quit and graceful and it was down to Alec to coach strength and danger into her performance. Dancing to American Woman Natalie had another strong performance, though she lacked arrogance, very skilful but flat. The judges failed to be convinced.

Aaron Carter and Karina Smirnoff wanted to make up for last weeks poor showing... Unfortunately they didn't, Aaron wiggled a lot but not much passion or feeling from a dance choreographed for simplicity. Their Argentine tango didn't include much tango as the pair remained in one place throughout the performance. Surprisingly the judges oddly over praised the performance, perhaps concerned that Aaron may suffer another bout of watery eyes.

Continuing with the next paso doble was Michael Irvin and Anna Demidova. Anna training technique for Michael imagine clenching a nickel between you butt cheeks then dance.... Michael obviously had a good imagination he took it literally. The performance though pinched thanks to the nickel was weak on posture, something the paso doble is all about. But Michael has certainly improved this week turning in what must be his strongest performance so far in the competition.

Favourites Mya and partner Dmitry Chaplin with the Argentine tango this must be the perfect dance for this couple and they certainly proved that. So good was the performance the judges could only point to a lack of emotion, Really you guys score consistently.....

Mark Dacascos and Lacey Schwimmer haven't set the audiences or the judges alight with their performances alight yet they are potentially show signs of real ability. Lacey hoped that the paso doble would work with Mark’s martial arts background, and she was correct. The paso doble she choreographed allowed Mark to pull off the physical power the dance requires, complete with a strong leap. Tonight they looked like contenders though again the judges were a touch hard on the pair.

Donny Osmond and Kym Johnson the Argentine tango - Donny is no Latin lothario so he is not a natural for this dance. Donny Osmond is not one to let such small detail get in the way of his performance and he managed to inject some sexiness into his performance though sadly not Latin. Never the less it was a good performance but it did not merit the tens from Carrie Ann and Bruno.

Louie Vito and Chelsie Hightower had a tough week last week, so were looking for a strong showing in their Argentine tango. Louie’s style still comes up short but this was by far the most passionate and tight he has been so far this season. The judges pointed out he tended to walk more than dance, he deserved the good score.

For Melissa Joan Hart this week proved to be tough as partner Mark Ballas developed the flu. Melissa had to practice with last weeks evictee Anna Trebunskaya, Interestingly Melissa got to see the Argentine tango from a woman’s perspective which transferred through to her performance . Though not a good as last week Melissa still managed to produce a passionate performance that contained some good technical moments.

Kelly Osbourne Louis van Amstel's paso doble was a strange affair Luois played the cape and performed to Ozzy Osbournes "Crazy Train," dressed as the rocker himself. Kelly failed to take this dance on board looking uncomfortable the whole time. Her performance and the  unconventional paso doble did impress the judges who only found fault with her characterisation.

Closing for the contestants was Joanna Krupa and Maksim Chmerkovskiy. Joanna’s regular partner, Derek Hough, was also hit by the flu Maksin took over for the Argentine tango. There was nothing special from Joanna’s performance, add to that a stumble went to make this a pretty poor tango. The only plus being her long lithe limbs were perfectly suited to this dance and added a sexiness to the pairs performance.

The show closed with a disco - group hustle.

Tuesday night will see somebody who didn't do all that badly on Monday night will go home, because all the performances were adequate nether spectacular nor disastrous. Michael Irvin sits at the bottom of the scoreboard (21) with only three points between him Louie Vito(22) and Natalie Coughlin (23). It will come down to who has the best fan base, Michael's NFL fans Louie's boarder base, or has Natalie impressed enough Tuesday night will reveal all.
