X Factor news as boot camp gets underway

Simon Cowell was left furious when Irish twins John and Edward Grimes made it through to the final 50 in last night’s ‘X Factor’ (26.09.09).

The 17-year-olds, along with 200 other contestants, were told by Simon and his fellow judges, Cheryl Cole, Louis Walsh and Dannii Minogue, to team up with two other acts and given 24 hours to perfect a song.

Jon and Edward sang with girl group Miss Fitz and solo singer Sian Paley.

However, during their performance of ‘Apologise’ the siblings sang over Sian’s lines, leaving her in tears and Simon branding them "selfish brats".

But Irish Louis defended their actions by saying they are "innocent children".

Simon replied: "You're crazy. They're vile little creatures who would step on their mother's head to have a hit."

But the Grimes twins went through, along with Miss Fitz, while Sian was sent home.

Solo singers Graziella Affinita, Shaniece Davies and Shar Alexandra teamed up in a three and wowed the judges with their version of Frank Sinatra's ‘That's Life’.

However, later in the show they failed to make it through to advancing rounds, much to the shock of their fellow contestants.

But they were invited back for an official chat with the judges, who told them if they performed as a group, they would make it through to the final 50 and the girls happily agreed.

Other acts to get through to the final 50 included former One True Voice star Daniel Pearce, Welsh teenager Lucie Jones and care worker Nicole Lawrence.

The final 24 will be revealed tonight (27.09.09).
