Pop star Pixie Lott has spoken out about her decision to join this year's celebrity cast of Strictly Come Dancing.

Having to defend herself after criticism that her amateur status following her theatre school training gives her an advantage, she explained the differences between what she's done and what she's going on to do.

At the Strictly Come Dancing press launch Pixie said: "It's completely different. I think because I'm used to getting up on stage and singing my own songs with my band and I'm so comfortable, that I don't get nervous at all.

"I just enjoy myself and absolutely love it, like I did a little show last night and I was just in my element. And then, doing this, is just... I feel completely different.

"It's something different, but I'm excited - I just wanna learn the skill and then hopefully I can use it in my shows in the future."

Pixie also joked that her boyfriend Oliver cheshire won't be joining her to dance anytime soon.

"Oliver doesn't dance, I haven't really done any practising apart from the one day I did last week, and then today - that's the only time because I've been doing shows.

"He's excited to see me do it, and hopefully he'll come down and watch."

Strictly Come Dancing launched last night on BBC One, when the celebrity contestants were paired with their professional partners.
