Cheryl Fernandez-Versini is glad she isn't mentoring the boys on 'The X Factor' because she needs more "excitement".

The 'Only Human' hitmaker is looking after the groups on this year's competition, but insists she'd have been happy if she'd also been given the girls or over 25s as she'd have been able to "have fun" with them.

She said: "I am enjoying the groups but I'd have been happy with any of the categories.

"Ideally I wanted the girls, groups or over 25s.

"You can dress them up and have fun. You just put boy in shirts and trousers. I need more fun and excitement in my life than that."

When it comes to her own appearance on the show, Cheryl chooses her outfit first and then worries about her make-up.

She explained: "I've never been one to be really quirky or outlandish but I will wear a more feminine make-up if I'm wearing masculine clothes, and the reverse.

"The clothes come first, then I decide how to do my hair and make-up."

Cheryl recently had her hair cut into a shorter style but is finding it harder to maintain than her long locks.

She told HELLO! magazine: "The myth is that short hair is easier to look after but it isn't.

"It takes less time to dry but it takes a lot of effort because you have to style it. You can't just put it in a top knot or a ponytail and look cool so I've shot myself in the foot when it comes to being low maintenance."
