In eight different countries and all from different walks of life, the characters begin to slowly realise their connections beginning through sensory input. Whilst one may be eating a certain food, another could taste that food in their mouth. If one's listening to music another would be able to hear it in a quiet room by themselves. It's these sort of things that sparks their identification.

Straczynski said of the realisation process for each of the characters: "It starts off with sensory input then gradually, it becomes more and more literal where you're in a room by yourself, but there's somebody else there and you're in San Francisco, but that character is in Seoul. You see each other in the same room no one else can see, but you can see them and you have a conversation and that person knows parts of you and knows things about you. Initially they don't know what the hell is going on, so as they begin to figure it out, we begin to figure it out... the first episode is a little bit confusing."

The eight characters will be guided through their experiences by a man named Jonas who hopes to help bring them together and protect them from the fresh dangers they'll face in the world.

A stellar cast comes together including Brian J. Smith, Tuppence Middleton, Jamie Clayton, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Tina Desai, Doona Bae, Aml Ameen and Max Riemelt. Daryl Hannah, Naveen Andrews, Terrence Mann, Freema Agyeman, Alfonso Herrera, Erendira Ibarra, Adam Shapiro, Ness Bautista and Joe Pantoliano also star.
