So, Arrow season 4 kicked off in the US this week, with the fourth season premiere hitting viewers right in the gut with mystical and mysterious goings on back at the newly christened Star City. Despite all that, Oliver Queen was enjoying a 'normal' life away from the madness with Felicity Smoak, and even had wedding bells ringing in his ears. When the time came for him to pop the question however, his sister Thea and friend Laurel turned up to bring the duo back into the action, and the proposal was put on ice. Devastating!

But not quite as devastating as the final few minutes of the episode. We time-jumped forward - a rare thing to happen in the Arrowverse - and discovered Oliver grieving somebody at a grave donned with flowers. It was fresh, there had been a funeral and a celebration of life, but viewers weren't let in on who exactly lay under the surface. Which leaves us all wondering - just who has met their fate this season? It's something the show's creators and writers will keep us hanging with throughout the season, but they have said that we'll know who's dead before season 4's finale.

Here are seven possibilities of the person who COULD be lying in that grave:

1) Felicity Smoak

It's the first name everybody immediately jumped to, because the scene was juxtaposed with one where Ollie and Felicity were enjoying life as a couple despite re-entering the chaos Star City has to offer. Many have drawn the similarities to the ring being buried (hidden) in a bowl of pebbles back in the Star City apartment to the body being buried in the final scene, but we're hopeful that creators wouldn't kill off perhaps the biggest fan favourite the show has ever seen.

2) John Diggle

Diggle's relationship with Oliver is currently very strained. It's clear that the path to forgiveness is going to be a bumpy one for Ollie, but as fans we all know that they'll eventually come together once more. Now imagine that their friendship does manage to get back on track, then just as the pair are enjoying being in the company of their bestie again - villains strike and halt the friendship in its tracks once more, but this time for good. It'd be compelling viewing, for sure.

3) Laurel Lance

Killing both Canarys would be a bold move, but this is an entirely plausible way to go. Laurel's father Quentin is now being forced to work with and for Damien Darhk, so if he messes up a little further down the line, Quentin could be punished with the murder of his daughter. As possible as it seems, we hope it doesn't happen. Laurel is turning into quite the Black Canary, and it'd be sad to see her go.

4) Thea Queen

Having already died in season 3, it'd be awful for Thea to die once more. She is however the only bit of family Ollie has left, could her death be the catalyst needed to bring the dark side of Ollie right back out into the forefront?

5) Malcolm Merlyn

This one's a long shot, because we know Oliver wouldn't be quite so emotional if Malcolm Merlyn met his end. However, it could be that Malcolm's death means Oliver is brought into the mix over at the League of Assassins once more, stripping him away from his life in Star City and those he loves for a second time. Very unlikely, but not entirely impossible.

6) Oliver's Child's Mother

Played by Anna Hopkins, this character has until this point gone unnamed, and was when we first saw her in a flashback, pregnant and paid $2 million by Moira Queen to pretend she had miscarried before moving to Central City. We saw her in season 3 bump into Ollie whilst he was visiting Barry Allen, where she looked at her former lover one last time after calling her child on the phone, promising them hot chocolate.

7) Oliver's Child

Conceived in 2007, this unnamed child has never met their father, and Ollie doesn't even know of the kid's existence. Now they'll be around eight years old, and if one of this year's Big Bads are looking to really hammer the nail to Ollie's heart this year, taking him away from his child just as he finds out he has one could be the way to do that. It'd be brutal, but incredibly powerful.

Of course, the person lying in the dirt could also be none of the above, but these are our guesses for now...

Arrow season 4 continues Wednesdays, 8/7c on The CW, returning to the UK on Sky1 on October 14.
