NOTE: Spoilers, gore and nudity

Kicking off in America last night, the seventh and final season of True Blood began to run its course before it heads over and premieres in the UK on July 7, 9pm on FOX.

It's been a rollercoaster of a ride to put it lightly over the past few years, where dedicated fans have visited Bon Temps time and time again to find out just what's going down with the supernatural beings that reside there.

Each and every time, Sookie Stackhouse seems to get herself into deeper trouble and more danger than ever before, but comes out of things with her life still intact - more than can be said for a lot of those around her.

So, in celebration of one of the most controversial television series on the box, we've decided to take a look at some of the most memorable scenes from each season.

1) Bill and Sookie's first kiss (Season one, episode two)

Back in the days when we were all rooting for these two to make it through and become an item, we were blessed with their first kiss just two episodes into the series. What neither of them could have predicted was the whirlwind relationship they'd share in the years to come, and it's one that's grated on viewers more than resonated with them.

2) Godric dies (Season two, episode nine)

Perhaps one of the first times we saw Eric in touch with his emotions was when his maker Godric decided it was time to meet his end. Eric wasn't a likeable character at the beginning of the True Blood series but over time we've all grown to love the sometimes aggressive but sometimes loving vamp, and this scene was pivotal in making that change happen.

3) Russell takes over the news (Season three, episode nine)

As one of the scariest villains around, Russell's quest for power saw him infiltrate a news station, murder the journalist live on-air who was reading the news and demand a weather report from 'Tiffany'. It was a fantastic yet gory scene, over the top but so perfect, able to shock unsuspecting viewers in just seconds.

4) Witches versus Vampires cemetary fight (Season four, episode eight)

One of my personal favourite storylines throughout the six seasons of the show so far would be that of the witches who came to Bon Temps with a chip on their shoulder. Vampires had ruined their lives for centuries beforehand and it was their time to seek revenge, resulting in a tense showdown, and where better for a battle than a dark and eerie cemetary?

5) Bill is reborn (Season five, episode 12)

Obsessions with Lilith were central to the fifth season, but none more so than Bill's, who drank her blood in the season five finale and picked up an impressive score of powers by doing so. After being staked, he was reborn but the initial shock of his resurrection soon wore off and his personality stayed mostly the same.

6) Eric begins to burn in Sweden (Season six, episode 10)

We were all left hanging at the end of the sixth season as the vampires who were enjoying the sunlight had their days out cut short following the death of Warlow. Eric sat naked in the icy mountains of Sweden, reading a book, but began to burn before the credits started rolling, and though Pam rushed off to save him it's not clear whether or not he will make it for the final run of episodes.

True Blood season seven kicks off on July 7, 9pm on FOX and continues Mondays.
