'Sleepy Hollow'

'Sleepy Hollow'

The new TV drama ‘Sleepy Hollow’ will be premiering in the UK on the Universal Channel tomorrow (Wednesday October 9) at 9 PM. The show created for American network Fox had its US debut earlier last month (Monday 16th September), and has received great reviews.

Created by Alex Kurtzman and Bob Orci, 'Sleepy Hollow' is based on 'The Legend Of Sleepy Hollow' by Washington Irving.

Kurtzman and Orci have a huge number of blockbuster movies under their belt so I have a hard time believing this show will lack anything. They are the writers of: both 'Star Trek' movies, 'Mission Impossible 3', 'Transformers' and 'Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen', Which is a pretty impressive résumé.

Some of their upcoming projects include; 'Ender’s Game', 'Edge of Tomorrow', 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', and 3, 'Van Helsing', 'Star Trek 3' and an Untitled Mummy Reboot.

The story follows Ichabod Crane (Tom Mison), who is resurrected in 2013, two and a half centuries after he died during his mission for General George Washington in 1781. Revived alongside him is the Headless Horseman, who Ichabod beheaded shortly before his own demise.

The Headless Horseman goes on a murderous rampage in modern day Sleepy Hollow, bringing Ichabod and Detective Abbie Mills (Nicole Beharie) together in an unlikely partnership.

Bound by blood and magic on the battlefield of the American Revolution, Ichabod discovers that he and the Horsemen are linked together and that he must kill him once again, for he is the first of the four horsemen of the apocalypse.

The Horseman started his rampage by killing Sheriff August Corbin, who was a mentor and father figure to Detective Mills, who - because of her own supernatural experiences - is/was the perfect partner for both Ichabod and the newly deceased Sheriff.

August had been investigating unsolved cases: murders and disappearances that had just been ignored in Sleepy Hollow and other cities. When Abbie looks into some old cases she discovered that there were two types of occult groups that settled in Sleepy Hollow - one for good, the other evil - which may have summoned the horseman back from the grave.

If the Horseman is not stopped, dark forces will affect the Earth, however it becomes more difficult as the Horseman discovers modern weaponry, but Ichabod too must integrate into the 21 century.

If you think the storyline won’t be able to span a whole season, (so far) you have been proven wrong.

'Sleepy Hollow' doesn’t just follow the story between Ichabod and the Horseman, but also the bigger story - the looming threat of a further three horsemen and the apocalypse.

With the second and third episodes slowly revealing Detective Mills’s supernatural past, and the disturbing truth behind Ichabod’s wife’s involvement in past events, that will no doubt affect the future, this series promises to deliver monsters, mischief, murder and twists and turns that we won’t be expecting.

'Sleepy Hollow' starts Wednesday October 9 on Universal Channel at 9pm.
