Alex Walkinshaw was devastated his proposed best man couldn't attend his wedding.
The 34-year-old actor met best friend Rene Zagger on the set of 'The Bill' in 1999 and the pair have been best friends ever since.
But when Alex married make-up artist Sarah Trusler last month, Rene was unable to attend the ceremony due to prior commitments with London's Royal Court Theatre.
When he first told me, I didn't know what to say
Alex told Britain's Hello! Magazine: "I'd asked him to be my best man. I was so upset about Rene not being able to be there. He is my best mate, we speak every day on the phone. When he first told me, I didn't know what to say.
"In the end, I told him he couldn't give up a job, especially as he'd wanted to work at the Royal Court for a long time."
Fortunately, 'EastEnders' star Scott Maslen filled in for Rene and the 'Midsummer Night's Dream' themed wedding was better than Alex have imagined.
Hundreds of guests - including Alex's co-stars Claire Goose, Gary Lucy, Louise Lytton, Andrew Lancel, Graham Cole and Mark Wingett - attended the lavish event, which was held at The Queen's House in Greenwich, south-east London.
