Maggie Jones doesn't find her 'Coronation Street' alter ego, Blanche Hunt, funny.
The veteran actress said despite recently winning an award for the Funniest Performance on a UK soap, she doesn't find street busybody Blanche amusing.
She said: "I don't find Blanche funny, and I don't think I could play her properly if I did.
We'd all like to be as outspoken as her and have the nerve to say the things she does. But then, everyone knows someone like her, or if they don't they wish they did.
"Blanche genuinely believes that what she is saying is right, and doesn't say things for comedic effect. If I started trying to play the lines for laughs, they wouldn't come out right."
She does, however, admit she'd love to have the directness that the ever-nosy Blanche prides herself in.
Maggie, 75, added: "We'd all like to be as outspoken as her and have the nerve to say the things she does. But then, everyone knows someone like her, or if they don't they wish they did."
Outside of 'Coronation Street' Maggie is assuming the character of Blanche to front a scheme in the Northwest of England to educate over 75s about the compulsory digital TV switchover, which is being rolled out between now and 2012.
