Claire Peacock is shocked and devastated to find out she was pregnant, but has lost her baby.

A week of erratic behaviour from the 'Coronation Street' character culminates in her collapsing while ironing and being rushed to hospital. Her husband, Ashley, appears just as she is being stretched to an ambulance and is shocked and confused.

Julia Haworth, who plays Claire, said: "The doctors tell Ashley that Claire's suffered a blood clot on her lung caused by deep vein thrombosis - and has lost the baby she was carrying.

Ashley (Steven Arnold) is given the daunting task of telling his wife the bad news, but Julia confides she is secretly pleased, after her ordeal she had with the couple's first son.

She added: "It's a massive shock because she's on the pill. But while she is devastating news she's also relieved. All she can think is that she couldn't bear to have another baby after the terrible postnatal depression she went through with Freddie.

"Although she's had a major operation and is on a cocktail of drugs, all she cares about is telling Ashley he must have a vasectomy."
