Fiz Brown will make her prison marriage proposal to incarcerated lover John Stape next week.

The 'Coronation Street' machinist, played by Jennie McAlpine, will take the drastic measure of chaining herself to the prison railings and holding a banner out for her boyfriend - currently in jail for kidnapping teen vixen Rosie Webster - to show her determination.

Graeme Hawley, who plays the character, said: "John doesn't expect this at all, he's incredibly shocked. He's at rock bottom when it happens and it's an amazing moment. He doesn't really know what to think though."

In good old-fashion soap tradition, I'm sure things won't go smoothly. I'm keeping my fingers crossed though - maybe this time John can mess up without sacrificing his relationship at the same time.

Fiz's proposal comes, however, while John is at his lowest ebb, on suicide watch.

Graeme added: "He's in a dark place. He told Fiz he didn't want to see her anymore, but that in turn makes him feel like he's got nothing left. Seeing Fiz again brings him back up and he says 'yes' of course."

The couple don't have much time to plan their big day however, as after Fiz's stunt - refusing to leave until she sees John - the prison governor reluctantly agrees to let them see each other, but only for five minutes. Graeme hopes, however, the couple will have a happy ending.
