'Coronation Street' Moves To Thursday

'Coronation Street' is losing its Wednesday evening slot after 50 years.

The ITV soap's midweek show is being moved to Thursday evenings at 8.30pm, while the channel's other soap, 'Emmerdale', is changing from an hour-long episode to two half-hour slots.

The move will allow the station to broadcast football matches on Wednesday evenings without disrupting the two programmes, as has happened until now.

An ITV spokesman said: "The changes reflect ITV's contracts for the Champions League, FA Cup and England internationals, which will see ITV1's live football broadcast on Wednesday evenings.

We're delighted that Thursday evenings on ITV1 will be a great showcase for soap from Weatherfield and the Woolpack

"We're delighted that Thursday evenings on ITV1 will be a great showcase for soap from Weatherfield and the Woolpack".

At present ITV's only soap on a Thursday is 'Emmerdale', which is screened for an hour from 7pm.

From July 23, 'Emmerdale' will air episodes at 7pm and 8pm, while 'Coronation Street' will be screened at 8.30pm, to be followed by an hour-long episode of 'The Bill'.

The revamp means both soaps won't face the prospect of clashing with the BBC's 'EastEnders', which will retain its 7.30pm timeslot on BBC one.
