'Coronation Street' is getting its first gay club.
Bosses at the ITV soap have decided to build the extravagant set as part of a major new storyline, which sees gay Sean (Antony Cotton) fall for a man at his local gym.
Referring to the gay district of Manchester, a source said: "We usually use the bars on Canal Street for our gay club scenes because they have been so good to us over the years.
"But this storyline is going to last for a long time so it made sense for us to build our own place rather than be on location for weeks on end."
The plotline will see Sean fall for bodybuilder Leon, and decides to make him see how desirable he is by lying that he used to date his gym partner Jason (Ryan Thomas), who is actually straight.
But this storyline is going to last for a long time so it made sense for us to build our own place rather than be on location for weeks on end.
Jason remains blissfully unaware of Sean's deceit, even when Leon starts chatting to him.
As the story progresses, Sean ends up taking Jason to the gay club and entering him in a contest to find Mr. Weatherfield - which he wins.
Although Jason is initially angry, he ends up wondering whether to continue in the competition when he realises a cash prize is up for grabs.
The insider told Britain's Daily Star newspaper: "The rate Jason is going he could well be Mr. Gay UK by the end of the year."
