Roy Cropper's life hangs in the balance in 'Coronation Street' after getting into a fight with murderer Tony Gordon.
The timid cafe owner (David Neilsen) is attacked by the knife-carrying evil factory boss as he watches bats down at the canal after Tony confessed to him he murdered Liam Connor.
Although Roy is well-known for his mild temperament, viewers will be shocked at how much of a fight he puts up against Tony.
A source said: "You might expect Roy's character to go quietly but he puts up one hell of a fight. Tony is left with more than his pride hurt."
After the fight, Roy ends up in the canal and bosses have filmed two endings, with one showing Roy drowning and the other with Tony rescuing his victim.
You might expect Roy's character to go quietly but he puts up one hell of a fight. Tony is left with more than his pride hurt.
Tony - who is now romancing Liam's widow Maria and being a surrogate father to their baby son - confesses to Roy his involvement in Liam's murder when he is in hospital, convinced he is about to die after suffering a heart attack.
Tony (Gray O'Brien) tells Roy: "There's something I have to say - I killed Liam! I killed him!"
However, Tony makes a shocking recovery and Roy instructs him to come clean to the police.
But Tony refuses and when Roy threatens to tell the authorities himself, the Scottish businessman tell him he might "have a tragic accident".
