James Thornton admits he's flattered when he gets recognised.

The 'Emmerdale' actor recently joined the ITV soap, playing troubled father John Barton, and says he's enjoying every moment of his new-found fame.

He said: "I was in Asda, and this lady came up and said, 'By the way, Zak's got your sheep. I don't mind, though, because it's nice when people want to talk to you about your job."

I was in Asda, and this lady came up and said, 'By the way, Zak's got your sheep. I don't mind, though, because it's nice when people want to talk to you about your job.

However, James - who is married to 'Gavin and Stacey' star Joanna Page - thinks fans will be confused if they see him and Joanna out together because they are in different shows.

He said: "People are going to think, 'What's John Barton doing with Stacey? We'll have to pop into Asda and freak everyone out."

John recently revealed he is delighted to be joining 'Emmerdale' as it means fans will want his picture and not just Joanna's.

He said: "Jo gets asked for autographs loads - I'm getting very good at working out how to use other people's camera phones to take pictures of them with her.

"Now I'm coming into 'Emmerdale', I've told her that she'll have to get used to taking the pictures instead!"
