The 21-year-old actress - who plays loudmouthed student Michaela McQueen in the Channel 4 soap - has had her exit from the show moved forward after angering producer Paul Marquess by taking to twitter earlier this month to announce her intention to quit.

A source told website Digital Spy: "Hollie overstepped the mark - Paul didn't even know that she wanted to leave, so everybody was stunned when she announced her intentions on the internet."

The actress - who films her final scenes next week - reportedly clashed with the producer over her upcoming storylines and stormed off set, where she immediately revealed her decision to quit.

She tweeted: "This past 4 years have been incredible but I think it's time to find myself again! I'm officially leaving Hollyoaks in the next 6 months! X (sic)"

The actress also infuriated bosses by confirming on her twitter page that a storyline centred around an alien would feature on the show.

The source added: "She also annoyed storyliners by confirming tabloid reports of an alien storyline on twitter, too."
