Ricky Whittle gets frustrated at the lack of respect shown to the 'Hollyoaks' cast and crew.

The actor - who plays Calvin Valentine in the Chester-based soap - says the Channel 4 show often gets overlooked by critics because its stars are all quite young and glamorous.

He said: "There's an idea that we're the party soap, the happy soap, the soap that has loads of fun, but people don't realise how hard we work. At the minute, especially with the late night stuff, we're doing 12-hour days, sometimes six or seven days a week.

Despite the tough schedule, the 27-year-old star - who has played Calvin since 2006 - says he has no intention to leave as he loves his job.

He said: "I'd rather be working seven-day weeks here than doing any other job in the world."
