Kara Tointon says she's not ready to have babies.

The 26-year-old actress - who played Dawn Swann in the BBC soap for four years alongside her boyfriend Joe, 27, who portrayed her brother, Mickey Miller - said she needed to "grow up" before contemplating children.

She said: "I still feel like I'm a teenager, so babies seem a bit far off."

Kara said she'd love to one day have kids with Joe but she isn't broody just yet.

She added to New! magazine: "I'm not broody at the moment. I read that I am, but no, I'm not. I think you need to be ready for that sort of thing mentally."

Joe - who won last year's edition of reality show 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here!' - has a two-year-old son called Harry with former fiancee, Emma Sophocleous, and has previously spoken about how great Dawn was with him.

He said: "I've always known she'd be a great mum, as she looked after the kids on 'EastEnders'".

Kara said she was "shocked" to hear what he'd said but took it as a compliment.

She said: "I'm always quite shocked by the things he says, which probably sounds quite cheesy but it's always nice when your boyfriend says nice things."
