Coronation Street's Leanne Battersby is set to propose to her boyfriend Peter Barlow.

The former prostitute - played by Jane Danson - will ask the club owner to marry her in an upcoming storyline which will see them wed in December as part of the show's 50th anniversary celebrations.

The opinionated character will reportedly get down on one knee in a bustling Rover's Return and declare her love for Peter (Chris Gasgoyne).

Because Leanne and Peter are both damaged goods, they're well suited.

She is believed to say: "I know I'm a nightmare and can be a stroppy cow at times, but Peter, will you do me the immense honour of marrying me?"

The former alcoholic answers: "I will if you will."

The 31-year-old actress recently admitted she hoped her alter-ego would stay with Peter for good - because they are both "damaged goods".

Discussing whether the romance will last, she said: "I hope so, because I love working with Chris so much. They're made for each other. Peter's flaws make Leanne feel a bit better about her own - they've both done stupid things, so when one falls down, the other is there to help.

"Because Leanne and Peter are both damaged goods, they're well suited."
