'Coronation Street' legend Maggie Jones has got her "cheeky grin" back after recovering from emergency surgery.

Maggie, 75, who plays battleaxe Blanche Hunt in the hit ITV1 soap, is recovering well after being taken off life support, according to co-star Michael Le Vell.

Michael, who plays mechanic Kevin Webster in the soap, said the cast were visited by Maggie's sister on set, who reassured everyone Maggie is recovering well.

We are really encouraged by her progress, she is showing great fight and resilience.

Maggie remains at Hope Hospital, Salford, after undergoing the operation on Saturday (10.10.09) for an undisclosed condition.

Michael said: "The good news is her sister said she has got a cheeky grin back on her face. She told us Maggie has got all her naughtiness back."

Another co-star, Gray O'Brien, who plays Tony Gordon in the soap, said the cast cheered when told their pal was getting better.

He added: "We're absolutely thrilled."

A Coronation Street spokesman said: "We are really encouraged by her progress, she is showing great fight and resilience."

Maggie has been hastily written out of her forthcoming scenes in the soap until the New Year.
