Maggie Jones has been an "irreplaceable" actress.
The late 75-year-old actress - who passed away on Tuesday morning (01.12.09) in her sleep after a long illness - has been praised by 'Coronation Street' writer Jonathan Harvey for her "razor sharp" acting as comic battleaxe Blanche Hunt.
He said: "I am absolutely gutted. Maggie was a lovely lady, a proper actress and her delivery and timing were razor sharp.
"I loved writing for Blanche as she could say the unsayable and you wouldn't hate her for it. Also, you always knew she'd deliver - and some! She's irreplaceable."

Maggie's ITV co-stars gave five minutes of spontaneous applause on news of her death and stopped filming for the rest of the day.
Bill Roache - who played her son-in-law Ken Barlow - called her a "brilliant actress".
He added: "She was a tower of strength - physically frail but mentally strong as an ox and sharp as someone half her age."
Katherine Kelly, who plays Becky McDonald in the soap, said she felt "blessed" to have known Maggie. Tupele Dorgu - who portrays Kelly Crabtree - said even through her illness, Maggie had "always had a kind word for people".
The veteran actress won several comedy awards for her withering put-downs and cutting one-liners and only this year won 'Funniest Performance' at the Inside Soap Awards.
Her final two episodes on 'Coronation Street' are due to air on Monday and Friday next week.
